Introduction
Web Systems OÜ is committed to making web content more accessible to all users, regardless of their physical or technical disabilities. Our goal is to provide an equally usable, understandable and accessible online environment for everyone – including people with assistive technology, special needs or older people.
This declaration describes how https://www.websystems.ee complies with accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.2 level AA and EN 301 549.
The declaration has been drafted in accordance with the accessibility requirements of Estonia and the European Union and is linked to a legal obligation that will come into force on 28 June 2025.
Response standard
The website complies with the WCAG 2.2 standard at level AA and also meets the European standard EN 301 549, which contains accessibility requirements for public and private ICT.
Level of accessibility and improvements made
The website complies with all WCAG 2.2 A and AA level criteria. The following work has been done to improve accessibility:
- Link texts: icons that stand alone (e.g. arrows, eyes, hamburger menu, etc.) have been accompanied by an explanatory
aria-labelattribute or textual replacement to make them understandable to screen readers and assistive devices. - Contrast: Text and background contrast were checked and, where necessary, corrected to the minimum requirements (4.5:1 for plain text, 3:1 for large text).
- Focus styles: All interactive elements (buttons, links, form fields) have been given a visible and sufficiently strong focus style. It has also been checked that the focus is not visually obscured.
- Keyboard navigation: the website is fully navigable using the keyboard only (TAB, ENTER, ESC, etc.). The menus, pop-ups and other elements have been tested and, if necessary, modified to work without the mouse.
- ARIA roles and names: added appropriate
aria-*attributes (e.g.aria-label,aria-expanded) for navigation and understanding dynamic components via screen reader. - Link Visible Focus: Checked and updated link elements to ensure that their focus styles are compliant with the new WCAG 2.2 requirement 2.4.13 – Focus Visibility (Enhanced).
- Targets for interactive elements: it was verified that all clickable elements are at least 24×24 pixels or have sufficient space around them to meet criterion 2.5.8 Target size (minimum).
- Accessibility of help: contact information and helpdesk support (email and telephone) are easily accessible at the top and bottom of each page, in order to meet criterion 3.2.6 Consistent assistance.
- Automated testing and manual testing: the website has been tested with Axe DevTools, WAVE, Chrome Lighthouse and NVDA screen readers. In addition, manual WCAG 2.2 checks were performed.
- Headline and structural logic: checking that the headlines follow a logical hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3) and that the content is structured in an understandable way.
- Language support: The HTML
langattribute of the page is set correctly (lang="et") to improve the performance of screen readers.
