When it’s nice to go to work

Flexibility, variety and good company are what keep people at Web Systems.

The freedom to choose when and where you work, the opportunity to work on a variety of IT projects, and a fun and supportive team – this is what working at Web Systems is like every day. Dedicated to developing IT systems, websites and e-commerce for more than a decade, the company’s motto is “From Idea to Goal” – to do your best to achieve the goals of both the client and each team member. After all, we all know the saying “Happiness is when you want to go to work in the morning and come home at night”. When you work for a company for more than five or even ten years, there must be something that makes your eyes light up in the morning and your heart glad. Especially when it’s a company in the IT sector, where employee turnover is higher than average and good employees are on the hunt.

Developers can have a say in their own working time and content

The work of a developer in WebSystems is varied. You can work on shorter projects lasting a couple of days or longer projects lasting a year and a half. Kristi, a front-end developer, says that variety is important to her, so she likes smaller and shorter projects. Kristi has been working at Web Systems for over 8 years. Being talented in many areas, Kristi has tried different things at Web Systems, including design and 3D imaging, but in the end she stuck to front-end development. According to Kristi, in addition to interesting projects, what has kept her at Web Systems is the freedom of time and the companionship. “We have always managed to find people who fit together very well, and it is always very smooth to work together, and at the same time, it is all as friends.” Kristi’s daily working languages are HTML5, CSS (sass), PHP and JS and as a front-end team lead, she kindly shares her 8 years of know-how with others.

As a back-end developer, Kevin enjoys working on both long and short projects – as long as it’s interesting! Kevin joined Web Systems over five years ago and now as a senior developer, it’s the biggest and hardest jobs that he gets to do. Luckily, all the projects are in different areas, so even after five years, the work is still exciting and there’s always something new to learn and discover. Kevin’s web development is mainly in PHP and JavaScript.

One of the youngest members of the Web Systems team is back-end developer Andre, who has been with the company for exactly five months. Since his job doesn’t require him to be there at all hours, Andre is able to go to school on the side and can adjust his work schedule to fit in with school. “School and work are rather supportive of each other,” says the good young man, noting that at work, school attendance is always supported and he is given the freedom to arrange his own working hours according to his timetable. Andre also cites the work team as one of the most positive aspects of Web Systems: “At WS, I remember the day I came for my job interview and was warmly welcomed by the other staff in the office. The first day at the office I was welcomed by my boss and I was very impressed with the way I was treated.” Andre’s daily working languages are mostly PHP + HTML and Javascript.

The ability to develop interesting projects for clients as well as in-house has kept full-stack developer Janel Web Systems going for almost 15 years. Janel’s code has given birth to, among other things, a warehouse app for managing incoming and outgoing batches, a page for automatic valuation of real estate objects or a solution for receiving, filtering and storing AIS messages on a UDP server. Janel is also the author of Projectizer, an in-house work management software.

Remote working and home office is everyday life at Web Systems

Do you still remember the days when you had to be in the office from nine to five and travelling abroad was only an option for holidays? At Web Systems, those days are long forgotten. Even before the pandemic, it was possible to work from home or remotely by arrangement. Nowadays, colleagues work from Tartu, Järva County, Viljandi and Narva, as well as from the same office on Pärnu Road, a few hundred metres from home.

Marilin, a front-end developer, lived and worked in Slovakia for a year. Marilin likes to work alone at home and therefore values the flexibility of Web Systems. Working remotely, she says everything went well, no problems were encountered. As the team is cohesive and supportive, and communication is efficient, the work went smoothly, despite the distance and digital communication.

The project manager is a smart multitasker

The project manager plays a crucial role in Web Systems. It is largely up to him or her to ensure that both the client and the developer are satisfied with the whole process. The project manager’s talent is not just the communication of information between the client and the developer, but the ability to dig into details, to anticipate potential bottlenecks, to make decisions independently, to switch quickly from one topic to another and sometimes even to multitask. All this, of course, with the support of a team. As Web Systems works with companies from a wide range of sectors, it is a great opportunity for a project manager to immerse themselves in the specifics of a very diverse range of areas and to learn about business areas from cosmetics to wrenches. The Project Manager’s day-to-day routine is one of client and developer interaction, spiced up with the right amount of technicality and creativity.

According to Merikese, Project Manager at Web Systems, one of the most surprising and exciting aspects of project management is that there are so many clients from so many different fields in the field of websites and other web solutions, with whom you can grow and develop your own experience. Merike joined Web Systems in January last year, and cites the cohesion of the team as a particularly positive aspect of the first year: “All questions get answered, all situations get solved”. In addition to great colleagues and interesting projects, what Merike likes about project management is finding exciting solutions in collaboration with clients, working with designers and developers on quotes and mapping, and satisfied clients who have a website or solution that meets their needs.

Piret has been project managing at Web Systems for three years. For Piret, too, the excitement of working on different projects gives her the opportunity to explore new and interesting areas and to work with very nice people. According to Piret, it’s inspiring to see how many different ideas and desires people have – they’re always big and ambitious. And all these ideas find a solution at Web Systems: “So far, there hasn’t been a situation where a developer has said it’s impossible to do. We really do have gold developers!”. “Sven always surprises and comes up with something new, and to see that wow effect in the eyes of the customer only gives the work a boost.”. And the second most enjoyable moment, according to Piret, is when all the work and effort is finally done, the development is up and running and good for the user.

It’s fun to fall into a salesman’s net

A salesperson is like a diligent spider who, with his or her IT knowledge, customer needs and excellent communication skills, can weave a strong web from which the customer, once in, cannot and will not climb out. A salesperson who knows how to find customers whose IT system or e-shop needs a proper overhaul. He or she has a sincere desire to help the customer on his or her business journey and to make the eyes of colleagues and customers sparkle with his or her smart solutions and heart. The salesperson can decide when, where, with what tools and strategies to bring new customers into the company.

According to Andri, CEO of Web Systems, the biggest advantage of working at Web Systems is the freedom to plan your own work and time. He adds, “Each team member also has the freedom to contribute their ideas and thoughts to the development of the company and the creation of work processes, so that they are listened to and their ideas are taken into account.”.
